THE HOUSES OF HEALING
TRAINING MANUAL
The Houses of Healing Training Manual is a guide for facilitating a 12-session course based on the book, Houses of Healing: A Prisoner’s Guide to Inner Power and Freedom. The course draws from a variety of personal growth modalities, which include:

  • Practicing meditation, self-regulation, and stress-management techniques
  • Learning cognitive reframing and attitudinal healing
  • Acknowledging, working with, and healing childhood trauma
  • Transforming anger, resentment, and unhealthy guilt and shame
  • Working with forgiveness
  • Acknowledging and working with grief, the "silenced emotion"
  • Nurturing spiritual growth

In the twelve-page introduction to the Manual, Robin Casarjian offers personal suggestions to the reader on how to approach facilitating a Houses of Healing course. She encourages the reader to use the material in whatever ways suit him or her best. In the body of the Manual, she outlines twelve weekly sessions, explaining concepts and exercises and relating them to the text of Houses of Healing. Included with each week’s lessons are "Self Work" sheets that can be duplicated for the participants in the course.

THE HOUSES OF HEALING
EDUCATIONAL & TRAINING
VIDEO SERIES

The Video Series is a 10-session series (available in both VHS and DVD format) designed to assist in the delivery of the Houses of Healing course. Each video is 15-30 minutes in length. In the series, taped in part on location during course instruction at a county jail and a state prison in Massachusetts, author and educator Robin Casarjian presents key concepts from Houses of Healing. Intimate scenes of prisoners working with the Houses of Healing course material add power and immediacy to the viewing experience. Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker Laurel Chiten produced the series.

DDDDThe video series can be used in several ways:
    • To complement the content of the book
    • To supplement a facilitated Houses of Healing program
    • To complement other existing programs (substance abuse, anger management, life skills, etc.)
    • As a tool for staff training
    • As a course or educational resource by itself (e.g., viewed through institutional closed circuit TV systems)

Note: Lionheart will loan sample tapes from the ten-part series for 30-day review. Contact us to request a loaner sample for review.
