Author Bethany Casarjian
Bethany Casarjian, Ph.D., Clinical Director
Bethany Casarjian, Ph.D., is the Clinical Director of The Lionheart Foundation’s National Emotional Literacy Project for Youth At-Risk. She is the co-author of Power Source: Taking Charge of Your Life and author of Power Source Parenting: Growing Up Strong and Raising Healthy Kids.
Dr. Casarjian received her Ph.D. from Columbia University in school and clinical psychology. Over the past fifteen years she has worked in a variety of settings serving young people facing significant life challenges. While a Psychology Fellow at The Children’s Village in Dobbs Ferry, NY, Dr. Casarjian co-created the Treatment for Residents with Incarcerated Parents Program (TRIP), a comprehensive therapeutic program for children with incarcerated parents.
Prior to becoming the Clinical Director of the Lionheart Foundation’s youth initiative, she was the director of mental health at the Heritage School in East Harlem where she designed and implemented a school-based mental health program for 300 students, provided individual and group therapy, teacher consultation, parent skills training, and crisis intervention.
As Clinical Director of The Lionheart Foundation, Dr. Casarjian conducts groups for highly at-risk adolescents and at-risk teen parents in a variety of settings. She continues to develop Lionheart’s social-emotional literacy curricula for youth and conducts professional trainings and presentations on these programs. Among other agencies, she has conducted Power Source trainings for the New York City Administration of Children’s Services, Brooklyn Drug Treatment Court and the MA Department of Children and Families. She is collaborating with the National Development and Research Institute (NYC) in a Power Source research study funded by The National Institute for Health and being conducted with adolescents at Rikers Island.
