THE YOUTH PROJECT

In 2003, The Lionheart Foundation launched The National Emotional Literacy Project for Youth-At-Risk. This project consists of two major programs:

1. The Power Source Program for highly at-risk adolescents
Youth at Risk
The Power Source Program was created to help highly at-risk adolescents break cycles of negative risk-taking, violence and addiction.

Through this initiative, adolescents learn strategies to carve out a new way of life - helping them break cycles of negative high-risk behavior; heal shame, anger and grief; and emerge with a new sense of self and a positive future orientation.

I decided to run a group with
Power Source. The kids loved it. It’s an amazing program. I have been looking for something like this for a long time.

2. The Power Source Parenting Program for at-risk teen parents
Young Mother
The Power Source Parenting Program is designed to help young at-risk parents break intergenerational cycles of abuse and neglect. It was created to give at risk teen parents the guidance and skills they need to be loving, effective parents and raise healthy children.

Power Source Parenting is awesome!   When I started reading the book I did not want to put it down.  I felt I could relate to the stories in the book whether I was 14 or 24 years old.  I am 24 now and I can remember when I had my first daughter at 14, having the feeling the teens in the book described. This book has offered not only many techniques and skills to better myself as a parent but has now offered me the opportunity to pay it forward.

“First of all, let me say how impressed I am with the Power Source book and manual.  I brought it home with me, expecting to skim it.  Instead I found myself completely absorbed by the wisdom, comprehensiveness and logical sequencing of the approach.”

“I love Power Source Parenting.  I have been teaching child development and working with teen moms for eight years.  I have reviewed MANY books.  I find PSP so useful because it is readable; it is current and realistic; the issues addressed are those that my students deal with on a daily basis; and the reflection sections are thought provoking and helpful.”
